Existing Tubing operations located at ski areas and amusement parks have an inconsistent season due to specific weather requirements needed to make and groom artificial snow. Our Ice Slides rely on the same technology used to refrigerate Olympic BobSled and Luge runs as well as indoor and outdoor skating rinks. A form of Glycol is chilled to -9° C to -15° C depending on ambient air temperature and humidity, and circulated through ice mats located on the ride. Water is sprayed on the ice mats and it freezes to form a consistent, smooth, and fast surface. Single and two person custom tubes are used to ride a variety of slide layouts.

Tubing operations require a hill typically 15 meters to 25 meters in elevation with various slope requirements and a flat area at the bottom. Our Ice Slide can be constructed on a slope or on a flat surface with structural supports. On a tubing hill, snow making equipment must be installed and the snow must be continually groomed. A simple rain storm can require making all new snow which is a high operating cost. The Ice Slide is ready to operate as soon as the rain stops and ice can be made and maintained efficiently up to 15° C. Ice can be made and maintained up to 30° C using greater energy. Covering the rides with decorative canopies will reduce operating costs.

Tubing operations vary greatly from one hour to the next due to temperature, humidity, and exposure to sunlight. It is not uncommon for the same person to travel 100 meters further on a tubing hill from one hour to the next due to these changing conditions. The Ice Slide maintains a much more consistent surface and ride in terms of velocity and distance. This is a critical factor in tubing having the highest incident rate of injury at ski areas, an industry known for an already high liability rate. Our Ice Slides greatly reduce the rate of incidents to that of the water slide industry.

Comparison of Snow Tubing to Ice Slides

Snow Tubing
    Ice Slides
Must have right weather conditions to make snow     Can produce ice surface efficiently up to 15° C.
Snow groomed by staff results in unpredictable geometry and performance     Pre-engineered rides, molded consistent FRP parts, produce predictable velocity and distance
Inconsistent performance due to sensitivity to weather conditions     Less sensitive to changing weather conditions resulting in consistent ride performance
High rate of incidents particularly in unloading area     Safe deceleration and unloading area
